Winnowing rice seed
A group of women farmers in rural Bangladesh have completed a video project that has led to improved rice yields. And now they're taking the video to other villages to share new techniques of seed sorting and storage that they've filmed.
The videos have been successful at helping to change attitudes towards different seed storage techniques and the enthusiasm arising from this group project has helped poor farming families increase their yields and income. Click on the boxes on the right to view their video clips.
The videos, produced by a team from a women's NGO called TMSS and the Rural Development Academy in Bogra, won an IVCA 'effective communication' award in March 2004. The project was organised by CABI Bioscience with funding from the UK's Department of International Development (DfID). Two short video training sessions were provided by agricultural video specialists, Countrywise Communications.
