Emergency Fallujah rally in Manchester
Manchester, UK. 6th November 2004. An emergency rally takes place in Piccadilly Gardens to protest against the impending genocidal attack on Fallujah. Several hundred people turn up at short notice. Once again the local "mainstream" media is too busy reporting "man bites dog" stories and/or filming mindless, escapist tripe to turn up to report this particular piece of reality TV. Evidently, the impending slaughter of thousands of civilians during an attack on a city the size of Brighton is not considered "newsworthy" enough to merit a visit to this event. The message sent out to the local Stop the War Coalition e-mail list reads: "Save Fallujah! Bring your banners, flags, placards, whistles and drums! The US military ground assault of the town of Fallujah has started. The last US attack in April left over 1000 civilians dead, and 65 US troops were killed. George Bush, boosted by his election win, wishes to make an example of the people of Fallujah. The death toll will be horrific. The US military will be using 500/1000 pd bombs, rockets, missiles and munitions tipped with depleted uranium on civilian areas. If there is one thing you do on Saturday 7th November--join the protest to oppose the killing machine, and they call this 'liberation'." The video clips on this page report what several of the speakers said at the rally. Broadband clip of a speaker from the Stop the War Coalition
