Generic AIDs drugs to the rescue in Brazil

Five years ago, the World Bank predicted that Brazil would have 1.2 million HIV positive people by 2001. The Brazilian government responded with a series of bold moves involving the free distribution of generic anti-retroviral drugs to all those with HIV/AIDS. As a result, the number of those infected has been halved and the epidemic has been stabilised. So is Brazil's programme the template for AIDS treatment elsewhere?
